Hours
The Media Center is open for student use whenever school is in session, during school hours, unless posted otherwise. Staff are always welcome.
Visits
The Media Center runs on a flexible schedule, which means that classes are not assigned times to visit, but rather the teachers must sign up for the times that work best for the class on a weekly or curriculum-related basis. The Media Center reservation sheets are at the MC Circulation Desk. However, please note that book checkout times are fixed each week.
Student Use
Students are welcome in the MC with their teacher or with a pass from their teacher. Students are expected to abide by the BCS rules for behavior and the posted MC guidelines for behavior.
Students are expected to:
1. Be doing something productive.
2. Be doing it in a way that allows others to be productive.
3. Be respectful of other people and property.
4. Ask for help when needed.
Checkouts
Students may borrow up to four materials at a time, as long as they do not have any overdue materials. 3/4 students begin the year with a two-material checkout limit, which will be raised to four materials approximately halfway through the school year. The loan period for all materials is two weeks. Students may renew their material up to one time.
Overdues
If a student does not return his or her library book by the due date, then that student is not allowed to borrow another book until the overdue book is returned to the Media Center. Overdue notices will be sent to classroom teachers at least once per marking period. Overdue notices will be sent to parents in the mail at the end of the school year.
Lost/Damaged Materials
If a student loses a library book, then the student is required to pay for the replacement cost of the borrowed book. If the lost book is found, the money will be refunded to the student’s family. If a student returns a library book in damaged condition, then the student is responsible for paying the replacement cost for the damaged book. In the case of lost or damaged books, the student is not allowed to borrow another book from the library media center until the replacement cost of the lost or damaged book is paid in full.
Donations
The Media Center accepts monetary donations as well as books, magazines, or subscription donations. After your donation is received, it will be evaluated for its usefulness in our collection. Unneeded materials will be passed on to classroom teachers or other charity groups at the librarian’s discretion.
