On Saturday, April 17 three BCS band members participated in the M.S.B.O.A. Solo and Ensemble festival held at Sashabaw Middle School in Clarkston, Michigan. In her first year of participation 8th grade clarinetist Megan Hoinville received a division II rating and a red medal for her solo clarinet performance. 8th grade percussionist Sarena Brown received a division I rating for her snare drum solo. Competing for the first time 7th grade band member Addison Horton also received a division I rating for performing a trombone solo. Congratulations to these young band students for their fine efforts!
Elementary Schools 5th Grade Spring Band Concert
Beginning band students from West Maple, Beverly, Greenfield and Quarton elementary schools will combine this May to perform a concert at the Seaholm High School Auditorium. The combined concert date for this year is Thursday, May 6th at 7:00 pm. A mandatory rehearsal will take place the day before on Wednesday, May 5th from 4:20 to 5:20pm at Seaholm’s auditorium. Students should bring their folding music stand from home to the rehearsal and the concert. All of the 5th grade band students have been working very hard since last September and are very excited for the upcoming performance. Each elementary band will also perform a day concert at their school for students and staff. These dates are still to be determined as of this posting.
Partial scholarships for summer music camps are being made available this spring through the Birmingham Concert Band Scholarship Program. Eligible students must be currently enrolled in the BCS band program and plan to attend a summer music camp or school. Requests for the scholarship applications should be made in writing to Mr. Rodgerson no later than Thursday, March 25. A copy of your acceptance letter or application date to the prospective music camp should accompany your written request
The BCS 7th & 8th grade winter band concert was postponed because of the snow day on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. The concert has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in the BCS cafeteria. The concert begins at 7:00pm.

Birmingham Schools have cancelled classes today, Wednesday, February 10, 2010, due to the heavy snow. THE 7/8 BAND CONCERT FOR THIS EVENING HAS BEEN POSTPONED. The concert will try to be rescheduled after meeting with administrators. A possible make-up date is Wednesday, March 3.
This blog will contain the latest information for the 7/8 winter band concert and the heavy snow forecast. The concert is still on as of this posting: 9:50am, Monday, Feb 8, 2010.
The M.S.B.O.A. Spring Solo & Ensemble festival will take place on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Sashabaw Middle School in Clarkston. BCS 7th & 8th grade band students wishing to participate in the spring solo & ensemble festival must submit names and entry fees to Mr. Rodgerson no later than Thursday, February 4th, 2010. Entries cannot be accepted after this date. Students may obtain registration forms and general information from Mr. Rodgerson in the band room.
The 5th & 6th grade bands will perform their spring concert on Wednesday evening, June 2, 2010 in the BCS cafeteria. The performance will begin at 7:00pm. The 7th & 8th grade bands will perform their spring concert on Wednesday, June 9 in the BCS cafeteria. The starting time for the 7th & 8th grade band performance is 7:00pm.
