Due: 3 resources on background information for the Introduction
In Class: Check in 3 resources on background for Introduction; Review and discuss Writing a Thesis handout; Discuss Quotes, Paraphrases and Summaries handout; discuss Notefacts and Resource sheets. Read sample student research paper in red textbook on pages 781-782 ans see R56-57 for information on citation format; take notes on Notefacts for Introduction-you should have 3 quotes, paraphrases and summaries and fill in Research sheet for sources. Begin draft Introduction; one paragraph in length; underline thesis; thesis to be at end of your Introduction.

Homework: Each person needs to find 3 resources for their side of the issue (each group of 3-4 on each side of the issue will have 9-12 sources on their side of the issue)-due Weds., Thurs., 3/11, 3/12

In Class: Check in 3 new resources; Within small group, work on the following: compare resources, choose your three areas of support that will go into your thesis statement and that you will argue in your paper/wiki, complete the Pro/Con Outline, continue researching your topic/side and fill out Notefact sheets and the Resource List for all research and resources. Make sure to have a mixture of quotes, summaries and paraphrases.
Homework: Complete at least 4 spaces in Notefact sheets for support areas 1,2 and 3, using researched resources; complete Pro/Con Outline with your small group.; each group member must have a copy but you can and should collaborate on it!

In Class: Check in Notefacts and Pro/Con Outlines; As a large group on your topic area, set up your Wiki and your Wiki Navigation Outline using the How to Set Up a Wiki handout. One person will be the administrator. then individually you will begin to compose on the computer a draft of your each body support section using your Outline and your Notefact sheets. YOU WILL NOT BE PUTTING THIS ON YOUR WIKI YET. TYPE IT ON WORD FOR NOW.Each support area should be one (1) paragraph in length. You should be working on the drafts with your small group-pro/con side of your topic area.
Homework: Draft of the body support area due Monday, 3/16. Each support area draft should be one (1) paragraph in length. Your final Introduction is due Monday, 3/16. EAch student is responsible for his/her own final Introduction. Introductions should include background information with a thesis statement (underlined) at the end of the paragraph with one quote, one paraphrase and one summary. The Thesis Statement is persuasive, but the rest of the Intro is background information.

Due: Final Introduction with background information with one quote, one summary and one paraphrase, with persuasive Thesis statement at the end; one paragraph draft for each body area of support.
In Class: Check in final Introductions and draft body support; In class in your small groups of three, collaborate to make the BEST Introduction and 3 Body paragraphs and record them on the Wiki pages. You will learn to cite in the Body of the Wiki on Weds., Thurs., 3/18, 3/19.
Homework: Each person in your small group should choose one page from the Wiki to finish for Homework due Tuesday, 3/17. Make sure to print out the Wiki page you work on. This will be graded as a homework grade. Make sure final Introduction is completed.

Due: The one page you were responsible for typing and printing for the Wiki is due today. Check in all 3 body areas as well as final Introduction for your Wiki.
In Class: Discuss the organizational structure for the oppositions argument and the refuation paragraph. Research and take notes on the opposition’s main argument. Individually, draft a paragraph for the acknowledgement of the opposition’s side.

In Class:
Discuss MLA format and MLA handout; Check in draft of opposition’s main argument; with your small group of three, use the drafts and collaborate to make the BEST one and record it on the WIKI page; be sure to also record the souces used for the opposition’s argument on the WIKI page; discuss Conclusion-what is appropriate for a conclusion in a persuasive research paper? As a small group, composed a draft Conclusion and have it checked in for credit; place the Conclusion in the Wiki; each person should have a copy of the WIKI (as completed thus far) in their manilla folder.
Homework: Work on MLA citations both in the body of the WIKI and in the Works Cited Page. Final Copy of completed WIKI with all completed pages copied including Works Cited Page and in-text citations due Monday, 3/23.

In Class: Work on MLA formatting of your WIKI both in-text and the Works Cited Page; pass out and discuss the Research Unit Test review handout (test Tuesday, 3/24); study time in class; start Student-Led Portfolio prep in class.
Homework: Print a completed copy of your reserach WIKI (each page) due Monday, 3/23; study for Research Test on Tuesday, 3/24
